MARKETING TIP
Put your website address on everything:
printed ads, radio ads,
receipts, bills,
flyers,
brochures, letterhead, envelopes, business cards, your
store window, cash register, business vehicles, marketing
items, everything!
When
your customer goes to your website, a wealth of information is at their
fingertips - and it all fits in a little space, just one line for your web
address.
Everywhere your business name goes, your website address goes.

How much space is 10 MB or 80 MB? How do
I know how much space I need? If you plan to have
mostly text, and just a few pictures, the 10 MB is probably
sufficient for your needs. If you want to add lots of pictures,
it depends on what size you want the pictures to display at.
Pictures can be resized (don't worry - I can do that for you!)
so that they don't take up much space. This may mean they won't
be the quality needed if you want your visitors to be able to
print them out in 4X6 or larger sizes, but they will be of
sufficient quality to view on-line. We can discuss your options
at your free consultation.

How do I
get my own website started?
You just need the desire and my contact information. You
will want to decide what you want from your website. Gather
information about your organization, family, or business
that you want added on your site, including text and
pictures. At our initial consultation we will discuss your
needs and choose a domain name for your site. As I build
your site, I will stay in contact with you regarding my
progress and with any questions I might have.
|
What is a domain name?
A domain name is your name on the web, followed by a
.com, .net, .org, or other presence. For instance, the
domain name of this website is webdesignsbyjan or
www.webdesignsbyjan.com
When choosing a domain name, it should be easy to remember
by your customers. Usually businesses choose a .com address,
families choose a .net address, and organizations choose a
.org address, but this is not a rule - you can choose what
you want, as long as it is available. There are millions of domain names already in
use. I will ask you to choose several options so that I can
find one available for you.
|
What is a webmaster?
A webmaster is the person who updates your website,
receives feedback regarding the structure of the site, and
manages the details of the site for you. Visitors to your
site will see a "contact the web host for problems regarding
this site" link at the bottom of each page. However, they
will primarily be prompted to contact YOU regarding the
information you have on your website. So, as webmaster, I
will be in the background managing your site while you enjoy
the benefits of being a presence on the web.
|
Can customers interact with me
on my website?
Yes, and the extent of that interaction depends on the
plan you choose. All plans include contact information - a
link to an e-mail address, phone number or whatever you
choose to list. Some plans include forms the visitor can
fill out and submit to you, guest books they can leave
comments in, even shopping carts that allow them to place an
order and pay for it on-line.
|
What is PayPal ?
PayPal allows people to
pay money to anyone with an email address without giving
their banking information to each person they are doing
business with. It also allows for collecting money. This
means you can pay your bill for your web services with Web
Designs by Jan on this website, and if you
want to be able to sell directly from your website you
can set up an account with PayPal and collect money from
online sales. Another option is to offer a telephone order option for your customers so
that you can collect their credit card information or
arrange for payment through the mail. Visit
www.paypal.com for more information on their
services.
PayPal is a secure site, and I have had no problems or
concerns using it for the past six years.
|
My organization is interested in having a website. Should we
choose a personal site or business site?
You can choose whichever plan that you feel would
best meet your needs.
|
When are monthly updates done?
We will decide at your initial consultation when the best
time for your regular updates will be.
I am flexible and can easily add to or change your website,
usually within 24 hours of your request if you need
something added between regular updates.
|
Do I have to sign a contract for a year or longer?
No. There is a discount for paying for your monthly fees 6
or 12 months at a time, but there is no requirement for
length of service.
|
What if I need to add something to my website before the
scheduled update?
|
What if I'm not happy with my website?
I guarantee my work. I will work for you to design a site
that meets your goals.
|
What will my website look like?
What do you WANT it to look like? There are many different
layout styles, color schemes, and page themes. In your
initial consultation we will discuss what you want so that I
can custom build the site for you. I can even use artwork or
other original material that you might want to be included
in the banners, backgrounds, and other portions of the site. If you
aren't happy with it once it is published, I can change it.
|
|
What if I decide later to have someone
else maintain my site? Can I keep my domain name?
Your domain name is yours to keep whether I am maintaining your site or if you want to have it
transferred to your own or someone else's account with a
webhosting service. |
